What Is the
Rising Stars Acting Program?

It's a Family

Established in 2013, the Rising Stars Acting Program brings WBR’s on-camera acting training to adults with developmental disabilities. Students explore scene work, commercial acting, monologues, audition technique, script reading, directing, working with a camera, and more… all in a supportive environment where instructors adapt their teaching, pacing, and activities to meet individual needs.

While acting is at the heart of the program, Rising Stars is about so much more than what happens in front of the camera. Through acting exercises and interactive activities, students build confidence, communication, speech and diction, focus, eye contact, self-expression, and comfort with public speaking and presenting themselves.

Whether students join for the love of acting, to build everyday skills, or to explore opportunities in the entertainment industry, Rising Stars gives them a place to be creative, challenge themselves, make meaningful connections, and experience the excitement of the film and television world. Most importantly, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of and have fun doing it!

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

SHIRLEY A.

Where do I begin with how wonderful acting workshops have been for my daughter, Lauren? She is more talkative, has more eye contact, is more open to talking to people outside of her family and in making small talk and she loves it! It has been the bright spot in an otherwise rough past few years . They continued to work with these young adults online and it helped them maintain their friendships as well as hone their craft and to have fun! We love all the wonderful people at WBR, Rob, CeCe, Quinn and Stefanie, and they are just the BEST! Thank you!

KATHY B.

Wow, you really know how to make a mom feel good! It’s uncommon to get positivity. What I can hear from the zoom workshops is the teacher's very calm, gentle and caring ways. I particularly feel they are a “master of redirection” which is difficult to do at times but they're amazing at it. Positivity creates a safe environment for disabled people who have “closed down” and are not taking learning risks. We are grateful to be a part of Weist-Barron-Ryan’s Rising Stars Acting Program as their nurturing, caring positive environment is almost impossible to find!

KRISTINA S.

What is so wonderful about Jeremy's acting workshop? Where do I begin! He's using his voice more, projecting with emotions, connecting with his peers, and has found a creative outlet. The guidance and support through his incredible teacher, Rob, is just amazing. Teachers like him are like conductors that are patient, observant, clever, and kind. This enables each student to bring their best qualities forward with lots of laughter along the way! I am so proud of my son and what he's accomplished in this wonderful class, and I know he is proud of himself. He recently typed out "I love acting!"; I think that says it all!
